Pennsylvania will soon have two NEVI electric vehicle chargers, with one coming to Aston.

Aston is getting an electric vehicle charging station this summer, the first EV charging hub in the region funded through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.

It will open at the Royal Farms on Market Street, writes Scott Sturgis for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

It’s the second NEVI-supported charging station in Pennsylvania.

“In Pennsylvania, we now have two NEVI sites operational,” said Colton Brown, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s alternative fuels infrastructure coordinator. “I think there’s right around 10 or 11 sites operational in the country, so we have two of them.”

Pennsylvania has been one of 33 states to take advantage of the NEVI funding and leads the way in building EV charging stations.

Eighty charging stations in Pennsylvania are expected to be built by the end of 2025, funded through three rounds of federal funding.

The NEVI program goal is to have chargers every 50 miles along major highways.

The NEVI program dovetails with home chargers and other charging systems being installed where people shop or dine.

Convenience stores like Wawa and Sheetz have been leading the way with convenience store EV chargers, now at 10 percent of their locations.
