After Churning Out Books for 25 Years, Collegeville’s Elin Hilderbrand Ready for Break

Elin Hilderbrand, left, on a podcast.

Collegeville native Elin Hilderbrand is ready for a break after tirelessly churning out beach reads for her legions of fans every year for the past quarter century, writes Ellen Gamerman for The Wall Street Journal.

Hilderbrand always enjoyed putting on one of her many bathing suits and hitting the beach to write her books by the ocean. She wrote 30 novels over the years, but this summer will be different for her.

“I have run out of really good ideas for Nantucket novels, and I don’t ever want to put out a product that is subpar,” said the Author.

Hilderbrand’s typical page-turner follows a romance that develops against a background of real-world problems, such as illness, death, and infidelity, all taking place in a rich summer community that comes with seaside beauty but also serves social tension.

The author, who finally hit No. 1 on The New York Times Bestseller List with her 23rd book, has decided to end her beach read run with Swan Song, a title that encapsulates her run of summer books well.

For the future, Hilderbrand is considering taking on a work of literary fiction.
