We live in an area with hundreds of miles of multi-use trails, and Delaware County is home to two trails worth checking out, writes Bailey King for Philadelphia Magazine.
The Ridley Creek State Park Trail in Upper Providence is a 4.3-mile paved, flat trail for bicyclists, joggers, and cross-country skiers.
Ridley Creek State Park also has 2,606 acres filled with trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.
The state park has picnic sites, campgrounds, hunting grounds and historic sites, including the 1683 Worrel House, the Hunting Hill Mansion and the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation.
The park has an Olmsted-designed formal garden and you can explore the remains of an Arts and Crafts Movement community at Sycamore Mills, at the park’s southern edge.
The 650-acre Tyler Arboretum next door in Middletown Township dates back to 1825 when brothers John Painter and Minshall Painter planted the first of more than 1,000 varieties of trees and shrubs.
For a quick and easy bike ride out of the sun, try the 2.8-mile tree-lined Chester Creek Rail Trail in Middletown and Aston townships.
