Freedom Village Proudly Joins “Pump It for Parkinson’s” Initiative
Freedom Village at Brandywine, on World Parkinson’s Day, joined the National Institute for Fitness and Sports in its “Pump it for Parkinson’s” initiative. The community came together to raise awareness of Parkinson’s Disease and the positive impact of staying active.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this important initiative,” said Kim Ranck, community life services director at Freedom Village at Brandywine. “It is crucial to spread awareness of Parkinson’s Disease and the benefits of exercise for those living with the condition.”
For their first time participating in the “Pump It for Parkinson’s” challenge, Freedom Village set a community goal of 30,000 steps. However, they exceeded all expectations by reaching an impressive 367,322 steps.
Throughout the day, residents and staff engaged in various activities to promote physical activity. The day started with a morning walk around the community at 8 a.m., followed by line dancing sessions at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., as well as a walk around the “Village Green” courtyard later that afternoon.
In addition to the scheduled activities, participants tracked their steps while using treadmills and NuStep machines in the community gym.
“We are incredibly proud of our community for coming together and surpassing our goal,” continued Ranck. “It was a fantastic day filled with energy and enthusiasm, and we are grateful for the opportunity to support such a worthy cause.”
