SCORE Chester & Delaware Counties has been recognized as the 2024 SCORE District Chapter of the Year for Eastern Pennsylvania.

This accomplishment was achieved through the exceptional support and guidance its team of volunteers has shared with entrepreneurs, small business owners and nonprofit leaders. 

It’s fitting that SCORE Chester & Delaware Counties was honored with SCORE Chapter of the Year in April, which is National Volunteer Month, a perfect time to acknowledge the positive impact made by SCORE’s volunteer mentors.

SCORE Chester and Delaware Counties has been operating since 1985, with 100 dedicated volunteers who provide confidential mentoring at no charge and offer business workshops and webinars to benefit our local communities.

A mentor is a certified, trained, and qualified volunteer who helps existing businesses and start-up clients, by providing business basic knowledge and techniques to help the business grow and prosper. 

SCORE’s mission is to foster vibrant small business communities through mentoring and education.

“I volunteer as a SCORE mentor,” said Mercedes Diaz, a mentor since 2019. “because I believe that small businesses are the backbone of this economy and I want to leverage my experience to help those entrepreneurs.”

In 2023, SCORE Chester and Delaware Counties:

• Increased workshop attendance in person and online by 74 percent;
• Provided more than 1,950 mentoring sessions;
• Increased total services—mentoring, workshop, and educational events by 47 percent.

“I really enjoyed working with small businesses and helping them grow,” said Will Cortes, a SCORE mentor since 2023. 

Volunteer mentor Kedric Fink got involved with SCORE Chester & Delaware Counties in 2008 when he used one of its business models to create his own business

 “I look forward to using my expertise to help small business owners grow,” he said.

In 2023, national SCORE volunteers launched 31,167 small businesses, helped create 152,115 total jobs and provided 285,014 mentoring sessions.
