SCORE honors women business owners, not just for Women's History month, but all year round.

SCORE honors Women’s History Month by celebrating the significant impact of women-owned businesses on the US economy.  Employing 9.4 million workers, these companies are at the forefront of innovation and introducing new products and services.

Closer to home, SCORE Chester and Delaware Counties is proud to shine a light on their women members who are proven business experts and mentors.  Most impressive are those first four who volunteered 10 or more years ago to bring a businesswoman’s perspective to entrepreneurs while running their own businesses, nonprofits and/or leading their organizations at the same time.

Meet the women who joined the SCORE team early on and set the bar for the many talented women business owners and leaders who followed them as volunteers!

Learn how Paula, Judith, Lynne and Pattie came to believe that deciding to create their own business or take a leadership role with an organization was the right one for them.

Paula Paisley

While working for various small family-owned businesses in the accounting/bookkeeping field, I realized often they didn’t have timely, accurate financial data to rely on when making business decisions. Some didn’t understand how money flows through their business and how cash is different than profit.

I saw a need and I have enjoyed working with business owners. This also led me to volunteer for SCORE.”

Judith Lee

“Previous to my current business, I had a business in another (related) field. That business provided me with the freedom to choose assignments and clients, as well as tremendous flexibility in my personal life. I have had these same benefits in my current business.

As I am independent in thought, values and lifestyle, this freedom is precious. I have found business ownership to be extremely rewarding!”

Lynne Williams

1994, I started my own business to allow for a flexible schedule to raise small children. My skills and interests evolved over the decades and I found my passion in career support and networking with a Meetup group in the greater Philadelphia area by 2015. After transitioning from K-12 teaching, I became the Executive Director of the Great Careers Group, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides career education to adults. In 2013 I met a volunteer from SCORE Chester and Delaware Counties at a networking event and joined the team as a workshop presenter and subject matter expert.

Director, Cottrell Entrepreneurship Center since 2018.

Professor, West Chester University since 2011

SCORE Volunteer, annual Women’s Conference lead

Pattie Diggin

“Thinking back on my career in marketing in NY and my time at Olde Ridge Village in Chadds Ford, my retail business from 2004-2011, the responsibility as marketing manager and business owner uniquely positioned me to be in my current role at West Chester University. At The Cottrell Center, I support student startups and play a key role in the Chester County entrepreneur ecosystem. Both at the university and in the community, I get to share my network and my personal experiences of triumphs and challenges as a small business owner with others who are pursuing their dream.”

SCORE honors Women’s History Month not only during the month of March but all year long by honoring all of the women business owners!  Special thanks to all our SCORE volunteers for their mentorship, subject matter expertise and contributions as business owners and leaders.
