As part of PECO’s efforts to “power” its customers and communities across Southeastern Pennsylvania, in 2023, the company provided nearly $7 million to more than 300 local nonprofits, while its employees volunteered more than 20,000 hours to help hundreds of organizations.

These contributions reflect the company’s commitment to partnering with local nonprofits and organizations to help achieve the collective vision of driving positive impact in the communities it serves.

For its commitment to the community, PECO received the Philadelphia Foundation Civic 50 Award, which recognizes the 50 most community-minded employers in the Greater Philadelphia region. This is the second year PECO has been recognized with this award for its community impact.

“Our commitment is more than providing safe and reliable energy service,” said Romona Riscoe Benson, PECO’s director of Corporate Community Impact. “Through employee volunteering, grants and community giving, energy assistance, and workforce development, we actively work to address the diverse needs of our communities, particularly in underserved areas. Support for our communities goes beyond being a good corporate partner. It’s part of our culture, driven by our employees, and is rewarded by impacts of our collective efforts across the Greater Philadelphia region.”

The interconnect of community outreach and engagement, corporate philanthropy and volunteerism, and economic development efforts is a key component of PECO’s broad support for local communities. As examples of these impacts, in 2023, PECO:

“Last year, we were selected by PECO as one of the recipient organizations for the Pacifico-PECO Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation Coat Drive, allowing us to distribute 100 winter coats to families in North Philadelphia,” said Aisha Winfield, director of Blues Babe Foundation. “PECO’s support over the past few years has enabled us to grow and reach children and youth in new and exciting ways.”

PECO’s corporate giving and community impact focuses on four areas — building Exelon’s future workforce, energy empowerment in our communities, enrichment through local vitality, and equal access to arts and culture.
