Aldan Boosters Mark 100 Years of Service to the Community
The Aldan Boosters, which began during Prohibition as a fraternal social club, is celebrating 100 years of doing community services, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.
The organization was created on Jan. 10, 1924, quickly evolving from a social club to one with a mission to make Aldan the best place in Delaware County to raise a family.
The association has held on to that mission with many family-centric projects.
It established the Aldan Boys’ Club in 1951, the Aldan Girls’ Club in 1968, and the Aldan Swim Club.
The boys’ and girls’ clubs eventually merged to become the Aldan Youth Club.
The Aldan Boosters are also behind several local traditions in the borough. They began the annual Easter egg hunt in the 1950s, the spring plant sale in 1994, and the July Fourth parade and cookout.
Since the 1950s, there’s been a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and Santa home visits on Christmas morning.
The Boosters have also contributed to the American Legion and Aldan Scouts’ food drives.
“We are proud to have been a part of Aldan’s rich history, and we look forward to the next century of continued service and community building,” said Ross Feinberg, Boosters president.
