I actually never thought about this concept until I heard Kevin D. Turner speak at a recent event I attended.

He suggested you take your profile off public and then put it back again.

When I think about all of the job boards on the internet, it’s the same concept. If you remove yourself from being active on a job board, and then re-upload your resume and profile, you are a new, fresh candidate.

Follow these instructions for your profile refresh:

  1. When you have pulled up your profile, click on the pen Public Profile & URL at the top right
  2. On the shaded band that says “Your profile’s public visibility” you should see a green button that is turned on
  3. Turn that button off and then on again

While you are there, check all your other settings and ensure they are set the way you want.

Make sure your profile photo is set to public so people can see your friendly, charismatic smile. I have all of the other buttons set green to show.

Another important thing is to ensure you have customized your LinkedIn URL and you don’t have letters and numbers after your name. It takes only seconds to do.

However, if someone else with your exact name has already done that, you need to have options to make it unique, so read this article for ideas.
