The Media Krampusfest celebrated Krampus, a half-goat, half-demon creature that punishes naughty children at Christmastime.

Santa apparently has a goat demon sidekick creating Christmas chaos known as Krampus.

That sidekick was celebrated during Media’s Krampusfest, geared particularly toward those who love Halloween, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

About 50 “troublemakers” turned out Tuesday to experience Krampus tales, Krampus cards, and a State Street promenade that culminated in the main square for a reading of the naughty list.

The noted naughty were then pantomime thrashed with tiny sticks by Krampus.

The fest took place on Krampusnacht, also known as Krampus Day.  The festival is organized by the Media Fright Fest, a Media Arts Council film festival.

Krampus celebrations are known across the nation but didn’t come to Delaware County until last year.

“I think Delco has a lot of weird to it,” said Festival co-chair Karen Chiarini. “This is like that alternate Christmas for all of us who love Halloween. Now we can keep it going through December.”

Master of ceremonies for the Media Krampusfest was Matt Lake, author of Night of the Krampus, Krampus Carols Ancient and Modern, and Weird Pennsylvania.

Lake was dressed as St. Nicholas and offered creepy Christmas tales and folklore.
