Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, one of the world’s premier horticultural gardens, is currently undergoing a major makeover project, writes Brenna Weick for NBC10 Philadelphia

Famous for its many mesmerizing botanical displays, the attraction will have even more to offer guests to enjoy starting next year.

“We’re going to be able to put more of our collections front and center, more gardens for our guests to enjoy, more beautiful landscapes outside the conservatory,” said Patricia Evans, public relations officer and associate vice president of marketing and communications.

The Longwood Re-Imagined project started in early 2021 and is expected to be completed by fall next year. The core conservatory at the site will be completely transformed and will feature a large new focal point.

“We are building a 32,000-square-foot new conservatory,” said Evans. “We’re adding a new restaurant and event space, and increasing our bonsai collection and our water lily display as well.”

Longwood Reimagined is by far the largest construction project the gardens have taken on in over a century. The staff are hoping that the changes will provide guests with another reason to visit.

“We want them to be wowed,” said Evans.
