DHL teamsters from Sharon Hill joined the picket line last week to support DHL Express workers at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

A picket line from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport included DHL teamsters from Sharon Hill and 14 other cities last Wednesday, writes Lizzy Ravitch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

About 200 unionized employees at international shipping giant DHL Express, which has a location in Sharon Hill, stopped working on Wednesday, Dec. 13, honoring a picket line set up by fellow union members at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport.

The Sharon Hill employees belong to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 107 and Local 500. They refused to work in support of more than 1,100 CVG employees who belong to Local 100.

“They’re together in this,” said Local 107 president Bill Hamilton.

The Sharon Hill workers are not on strike, however, he said.

They went on strike Dec. 7, accusing DHL of unfair labor practices and demanding a fair contract.

DHL has proposed that workers can only strike once their contract has expired and cannot honor another striking union’s picket line.

“We’re still a little appalled that they would take this position,” Hamilton said.

DHL Express is one of the largest shipping companies in the world. Locally, it shut down a Southwest Philadelphia location and opened up the facility in Sharon Hill.
