Pennsylvania Turnpike, also known as I-76, came in the top five most hated roads in the country in a recent poll of drivers’ 100 most loathed interstates, writes Mekeel David for The Morning Call.

The highway that runs the length of the state east and west ranked fourth in a Gunther Volvo Cars Daytona Beach poll that surveyed 3,000 drivers.

The turnpike is, “a mix of historic charm and modern-day migraines,” notes a report on the poll. “Imagine a dance floor, but instead of people it’s cars — shimmying, twirling, and, occasionally, bumping into each other.”

According to the poll, I-76 is especially troublesome around Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Conditions tend to get worse during bad weather or holiday travel seasons, such as the approaching one.

The poll also indicated that the turnpike’s toll booths can cause challenges as they are known to become choke points during heavy travel periods.

Two more Pennsylvania roads made the list. I-95 landed at No. 29. The road is especially problematic in the Philadelphia region where it faces heavy traffic. Meanwhile, I-376 ranked at No. 69.
