Polo Fields Bus Turnaround Prompts Parking Worries for Nearby Haverford Neighbors

Haverford neighbors of the Polo Fields are concerned about a proposed bus turnaround at the fields.

A proposed bus turnaround at the Polo Fields in Haverford Township has residents living nearby worried about parking problems, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for Main Line Times & Suburban.

The Polo Fields are in a residential area in the Bryn Mawr section of Haverford Township.

They’ve been privately owned since 1944 by the Bryn Mawr Playfield Association. There is a shared-use agreement for use of the fields between Lower Meron and Haverford.

The Lower Merion School District is hoping students from the recently-opened Black Rock Middle School in Villanova could use the Polo Fields for baseball and softball practice in the spring after school, Monday through Friday.

But now, with a proposal for a bus turnaround area, nearby residents are worried it will cause parking problems in the neighborhood.

“Here’s the big problem with the bus turnaround – you’re taking away 17 parking spaces,” said Kathy Case, a resident living near the Polo Fields. “That parking lot is always full. Where are they going to go? Who is going to police it? Who is going to tell them they can’t park here every day after school?”

Lower Merion School District officials are hoping an agreement can still be reached.
