Dante DeVuono mostly works as a blocker for Garnet Valley for as a receiver, he has some shining moments.

They call Dante DeVuono a receiver, but you’re more likely to see him working as a blocker for the Garnet Valley Jaguars, writes Aaron Carter for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 17-year-old is a blocker about 95 percent of the time, said head coach Eric Van Wyk.

But he also shines when that 5 percent opportunity to receive the ball comes along. Last week, he made a one-handed catch, contributing to the Jaguars’ come-from-behind 28-24 victory against Haverford School.

Van Wyk described it as the play of the game because Haverford had an impressive offense going.

“He took full advantage of the opportunities he’s had when we do throw the ball. It really speaks volumes to his character and his selflessness,” Van Wyk said.

This was just DeVuono’s fourth catch ever.  COVID-19 took away his freshman year. He was on junior varsity as a sophomore and a junior, and Garnet Valley’s program is usually led by a new senior class each season.

So DeVuono waited patiently for the right moments.

“Garnet Valley has prepared me for that,” he added. “Being in the program, that’s kind of like the job description. When you’re called upon, you have to be ready to go.”
