Christian Sanderson’s Unique Collection Gives a Peek Into Chadds Ford History

By

The Christian C Sanderson Museum, a Chadds Ford museum collection is an eclectic mix built from one man’s curiosity, but it’s also a window into local history, especially unusual history, reports Dan Sheridan for 6abc.

The Christian C Sanderson Museum contains items drawn from Christian Sanderson’s passion for music, history, and art.

The museum has operated since 1967. Sanderson was a teacher, musician, historian, and collector.

It has eight rooms filled with artifacts from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, and both World Wars, along with original sketches and paintings from the Wyeth artist family as well as objects relating to life in Chadds Ford.

The items on display were collected over Sanderson’s lifetime.

“And if you see it here, Chris thought it was interesting, and he kept it,” said Charles Ulman, curator of the Sanderson Museum.

“We have Easter eggs back there from the 1880s,” Ulman said. “Who does that?”

Museum volunteer Jim Christ calls it one of the most unique museums in the Brandywine area.

Christian Sanderson did a lot of extraordinary things, a renaissance man who left behind relics for us to see and celebrate his life, said 6abc photojournalist Dan Sheridan for One Tank Trips.
