Delaware County Symphony Concert Celebrates Local Composers

The Delaware County Symphony Orchestra presents "Delco Arts Week- Local Connections" Oct. 1 at Neumann University.

The Delaware County Symphony Orchestra is participating in Delco Arts Week 2023 with a special concert program Oct. 1 of composers and arrangers with local connections.

Delco Arts Week- Local Connections will open the Delaware County Symphony Orchestra’s fall season. It takes place 3 PM in Neumann University’s Meagher Theatre.

Included on the program will be Samuel Barber’s String Quartet in B minor and Canzone for flute and piano.

Also for flute and piano is Gary Shocker’s Regrets and Resolutions.

Former Delaware County Symphony member Vince Iannone is presenting his Tango Familiare for the woodwind quintet, and the concert concludes with an arrangement for chamber orchestra by local composer Joseph Lorini of Isaac Albéniz’s Chants d’Espagne.

Delco Arts Weeks is an annual event highlighting the culture of Delaware County through its cultural and artistic organizations, groups, and individuals. For one week, residents can experience more than 50 cultural events throughout the county.

This year’s activities run Sept. 30 to Oct. 8. The celebration of the performing, visual, and creative arts includes concerts, film, dance, exhibitions, festivals, workshops, and activities for kids, and many are free to the public.

The Delaware County Symphony is a community orchestra created in 1971 that is dedicated to providing outstanding musical experiences for residents of the Delaware County area.

The Delaware County Symphony is a charter member of the Arts Guild at Neumann University, formed in 1991 to enhance the cultural programming available to the Delaware Valley community.
