How to Break Out of the Toxic Workplace Cycle

Do you find yourself constantly caught in the cycle of being in a toxic workplace? There are ways to break the cycle, writes David M. M. Taffet for FastCompany, and it involves looking inward.

This could be due to childhood experiences and how our external environments have shaped us. If you were raised in a toxic environment, there’s a chance you might be choosing it unconsciously because it’s familiar.

Don’t Tolerate the Intolerable

Taffet suggests setting healthy boundaries for yourself. You don’t have to put up with a toxic work situation if it’s bad for your mental health. Journaling and therapy will also help you reflect.

Do a Vibe Check

You may not realize you’re in a toxic workplace until you assess the moods of your coworkers. If you find yourself physically drained it might mean that you’re hanging around toxic people. If you find yourself energized and happy, you might have broken the cycle.
