Wawa Station Neighbors Continue to Fight Train Horn Disruption

By

The noise from train horns plaguing neighbors of the new Wawa station has not gone away since the issue was first raised in early March, reports Bob Brooks for 6abc.

“It has absolutely devalued my home. It has devalued all my neighbor’s homes,” said Frank Annunziato, who lives in Aston.

Neighbors gathered at the Roosevelt Community Center in Media Tuesday night complaining they hear the horns 40 times a day from just after 4 AM to midnight.

The problem started last year when SEPTA opened Wawa Station and offered Regional Rail service to Middletown.

The problem is affecting Middletown Township, Aston, and Chester Heights, most notably at the Lenni Road crossing and near the Lenni rail yard.

SEPTA has scaled back train horn testing at the Lenni rail yard but the safety horns signaling the train’s crossing at Lenni Road will continue.

Joe Connolly, SEPTA manager of federal affairs, said it’s a balance between the noise complaints and providing train services to Wawa Station.

The three municipalities affected by the horn noise are considering working together on a feasibility study with the hope of eventually creating quiet zones.
