Dr. Stacey Robertson was inaugurated Thursday as Widener University’s 11th president, offering a message that combined elements of humility, belonging, exceptional care, and agility, writes Kathleen E. Carey for the Daily Times.

“Like most of us I had some wild dreams along the way but the one common theme in all my dreams was to play a role, big or small, in making the world a better place,” she said. “Here at Widener — a beautiful, magical and astonishingly committed place — we are living into this dream together.”

Her inauguration was met with cheers from students, professors, staff, alumni and delegates. The ceremony took place in the Schwartz Athletic Center Gymnasium.

The ceremony included comments from Chester Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland, Delaware County Councilwoman Christine Reuther, state Rep. Carol Kazeem, D-159 of Chester, and state Sen. Jonn Kane, D-26 of Birmingham.

“In everything that she does, she brings a spirit of belonging and it is a constant reminder to students that you belong here,” said Ijjae Hill, a student representative on the Presidential Search Committee.

The university announced in February that Dr. Robertson would replace Dr. Julie E. Wollman, who left the university to serve as professor of practice in higher education at the University of Pennsylvania.
