Haverford High Robotics Team Makes It to World Championship
Haverford High School’s FIRST robotics club 484 Robo Force has made it to the robotics world championships in Houston, reports Howard Monroe for CBS 3 Philadelphia.
“I’m so proud,” said senior Devon Mattox. “It’s not just ‘yeah, I get to go on a vacation.’ It’s an achievement.”
The Haveford High robotics team is already known in sports mascot circles for creating the Model T Ford robot used at Haverford High’s sporting events.
The robot, affectionately named “Henry”, is the school’s first “masbot”, created so the school’s sports teams, the Fords, would have a “real life” mascot to show off at games.
Now for only the second time in 23 years, the Haverford High robotics team has made it to the FIRST robotics world championships set to start April 19.
Senior Kibby Shelton said the entire team has put in a lot of hours.
Said another team member, “We worked extremely hard this year. It feels amazing. It’s a great comeback from last year.”
The team got to districts last year but missed out on the world championship.
This year, the team stayed optimistic, and they kept winning, taking two competitions, and qualifying for the championship event in Houston.
