Community College Professor Honored with Early Childhood Education Award

Dr. Jean Allison was honored recently for her 30 years of devoted service to early childhood education,

Creator of the Early Childhood Education Apprenticeship program in Delaware and Chester Counties, Dr. Allison was recently given the 2023 Voice for Children Award, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The apprenticeship program provides job skill development and higher education opportunities for those in the early education field.

Dr. Allison has been with Delaware County Community College for 16 years and is an associate professor in early education.

The award presentation by the Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children took place March 31 in Hershey.

“We know apprenticeships are a proven model to help early educators reach degree completion and earn higher wages, ultimately benefiting our youngest children,” said Jen DeBell, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association at the awards ceremony.

“[Dr. Allison] has dedicated her career to children and families and the early educators that serve them and truly embodies what the Voice for Children Award is all about.”

Dr. Allison began as a preschool teacher and worked for The Preschool Project to improve the education and care being offered at childcare centers in Philadelphia.
