Another Maddy Siegrist Record–This Time as a WNBA Draft Pick
The Dallas Wings have picked Maddy Siegrist as third overall in the 2023 WNBA draft, writes Meghann Morhardt for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The first City 6 women’s basketball player drafted in six years, Siegrist’s No. 3 pick is the highest ever for a City 6 woman player.
Siegrist was a women’s college basketball record-breaker, breaking the Villanova and Big East all-time scoring records. She was also a first-team AP all-American.
She was projected to be chosen by the Wings in the fifth overall pick.
The team is counting on the 6-foot-2 forward’s impact as a rookie true scorer. Dallas president Greg Bibb described Siegrist Thursday as “flat-out one of the best players in the draft.”
Siegrist will become part of a core that Dallas has been building in the past few seasons.
With some injuries and inconsistencies at the small forward position, Siegrist will have an opportunity to provide some scoring right off the bench.
“I’ll play any position they need me to play,” Siegrist said. “Fortunately at Villanova, we played five out, so I’ve played one through five. I’ll do whatever they need.”
