Villanova University Women’s Basketball head coach Denise Dillon has coached this year’s two top scorers in women’s basketball, writes Keith Gabriel with a video by Margo Reed for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Villanova’s Maddy Siegrist has led the nation in scoring, with 29 points per game in the regular season.

Drexel’s Keishana Washigton, who was recruited by Dillon before the coach left in 2020 to come to Villanova, averaged 27.1 points per game.

Dillon herself has racked up accolades as a player and coach.

She was a star at Cardinal O’Hara High School. She made it to the Big 5 Hall of Fame as a guard at Villanova.

As coach, she led Drexel to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009 and took the Drexel Dragons to a women’s NIT title in 2013.

Now, Villanova’s women’s team, under Dillon, is preparing for another appearance at the NCAA Tournament as the No. 11-seeded team.

Dillon is also a Villanova Hall of Fame member and is in the Delaware County Athletics Hall of Fame.

She was named Big East Coach of the Year in 2022, as she led Villanova to an NCAA Tournament appearance.
