This Home in Chadds Ford Is Colonial, but With a Twist
A Chadds Ford Colonial doesn’t seem to fit in with the contemporary and modern houses that blend in with the woodsy Brandywine River watershed in the heart of Andrew Wyeth country.
But sometimes you’ll find a Colonial home in Chadds Ford, like this non-traditional “post-modern” home for sale at 116 Ashford Drive, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.
This quarter-century-old home in the Ashford subdivision follows the tradition of Colonial design to a point, but the elements are arranged differently, from its front elevation and lack of a center half to a foyer where the main staircase sits at a 45-degree angle to the surrounding rooms.
Next to it are two open combined spaces that would be separate in a traditional Colonial.
The first floor has a music room, a formal dining room, an extra-large living room with a marble fireplace and built-in bookcases, a Florida room, and a kitchen.
There are five bedrooms upstairs.
The top floor has an au pair/in-law suite.
A finished basement has a media room, game room, wet bar and two wine fridges, a gym, and a fireplace.
A pool and fire pit await outside and the backyard has a built-in irrigation system.
