Eagles Autumn Lockwood 1st Black Woman to Coach Super Bowl

Autumn Lockwood, born in Chester, became the first Black woman to coach in a Super Bowl and the fourth woman overall to coach the big game, writes Rashad Grove for Billy Penn.

Lockwood, 29, is the Philadelphia Eagle’s assistant coach, joining the Eagles staff last summer. She is one of four women who are full-time assistant coaches in the NFL.

In 2019, she had a four-week internship with the Atlanta Falcons on a Bill Walsh Coaching Fellowship. She worked in their strength and conditioning department and was a coach and trainer during Organized Team Activities.

Lockwood was the coordinator of sports performance at the University of Houston. She was also the strength and coordinating assistant at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. 

She has a master’s degree in sports management from East Tennessee State University, working there with both the men’s and women’s basketball team.

Lockwood was also a star athlete at the University of Arizona, lettering on the women’s soccer team.

Her father, David Lockwood is the safeties coach at Appalachian State University in North Carolina. David Lockwood was also a three-year cornerback starter for the Mountaineers football team, where he played in three bowl games
