Holiday Card-Making Party Brings Cheer to Local Seniors

By

A recent holiday card-making party organized by Sharell Wilson cheered up some senior citizens, built family bonds, strengthened the community and raised funds for a local nonprofit, writes Tamala Edwards for 6abc.

The party is the inspiration of Wilson, a social worker, and her nonprofit Fruits of the Family Table.

The event, now in its fourth year, was held at Five Points Coffee in Upper Darby. It brought generations of families together.

“Our mission areas are reintegration, aging, parenting, and substance use,” Wilson said, and seniors are pivotal to the family dynamic.

The hand-made cards were given to the attendees of the Watkins Avenue Senior Center in Upper Darby.

Attendees included Wilson’s mother, Tina Thomas.

Thomas is proud of her daughter for hosting the event. She joined in because helping seniors is “a beautiful thing”, especially this time of year.

Angelina Cibotti from Upper Darby was overcome with emotion at receiving a card.

“I think it’s beautiful and I love it,” she said, fighting back tears. “I love it.”

“I’m really hoping that they feel loved, they feel thought about, and they feel some joy this time of year,” said Wilson.
