Judge Rules Delco Memorial Hospital Will Stay Open for Now

By

A Pennsylvania judge ruled Tuesday that Delaware County Memorial Hospital stay open temporarily while discussions are held on the future of the hospital, reports Fox 29.

Crozer Health, owned by Prospect Medical Holdings, had planned to close the current hospital by Nov. 26 and convert it to an inpatient behavioral health center by the spring of 2023.

The Foundation for Delaware County and CKHS Inc. petitioned the court for an emergency injunction to keep the hospital open and a hearing was held Friday.

Chester County Court of Common Pleas Senior Judge Robert J. Shenkin ruled Tuesday in favor of the injunction, ruling that no changes in services or operations be allowed at the hospital for now.

The judge also stipulated that the involved parties meet within two days to discuss the hospital’s future and report back to the court.

Frances Sheehan, president of the Foundation for Delaware County, said the Foundation was pleased with the judge’s decision.

“He recognized that closing the hospital is a clear violation of Prospect’s commitment when they purchased the Crozer Keystone Health System to keep the hospitals open as acute care facilities and that closing the hospital would be tremendously damaging to the community,” Sheehan wrote in a statement.
