Dario Mescia, the Havertown father of two girls, has written his first children’s book whose central character is an inspirational role model for young girls, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

“Ruby Reindeer and the Magic Antlers” features a young female reindeer named Ruby who is told that only male reindeer have the magic to pull Santa’s sleigh. Ruby sets out to prove them wrong.

The story is about curiosity, courage, and the power of being true to yourself.

Mescia wanted to give a gift to his daughters Eliotte, 8, and Isabel, 6, that would last a lifetime.

“I want this book to teach them that they can do and be whatever they want,” the author stated. “I don’t want my daughters, or any girls for that matter, to ever doubt that they can do something just because they are girls.“

Mescia is a graphic designer working in marketing. The book was written during the pandemic’s slowdown.

His daughters love it and now have it memorized to read along with him. They also helped pick illustrations for the story.

“When they found out I was actually going to publish it, they were so excited!”
