2 Villanova Professors Use Fulbright Scholarships for Humanitarian Work

James Peyton Jones and Pritpal Singh.

Two Villanova University professors who have dedicated their careers to humanitarian engineering will be receiving U.S. Fulbright Scholar grants from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, reports Villanova University.

James Peyton Jones, Ph.D., and Pritpal Singh, Ph.D. will use their Fulbright scholarships to expand their work in computer and electrical engineering.

Peyton Jones will teach embedded systems and the Internet of Things this fall at Al Akhawayn University in Morocco.  He plans to apply his teachings to water-resources monitoring, a major issue in Morocco.

“I’m excited about connecting with the academic community at al Akhawayn and forming partnerships on this important project,” said Dr. Jones.

Singh will spend three months teaching in Ecuador in the Spring of 2023, partnering with the University Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral (ESPOL).

He will teach a course on the implementation and commercialization of sustainability-focused technologies. He is also researching the potential of renewable energy on the Galapagos Islands.

“I just want to see people who are in underserved conditions, and who haven’t had the privileges and opportunities that I’ve had, have a better quality of life,” he said. “That’s what drives me there.”
