Pa.'s favorite sports movie features Philly's most renown on-screen boxer, but in an edition that may not be what most fans suspect.

Ask a Philly sports-movie fan about a favorite film, and responses are likely to include Rocky (1976) or Invincible (2006) or even Silver Linings Playbook (2012). But according to a survey by streaming service provider Sportrscriber, they’d all be wrong.

Well, one would be close.

Sportscriber — working aside Mindnet Analytics (a New York data science company) — set out to identify what states connected deepest with movies from among the 200 most-popular sports films of all time.

Surprisingly, Pa. opted for Rocky Balboa (2006), the sixth installment in Philly’s underdog boxing saga.

Not the original, which won the Best Picture Academy Award. Not Creed (2015), with its 95 percent positive critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the Keystone State–preferred edition, Sylvester Stallone’s titular two-time heavyweight champ has retired from the sport. But to the surprise of no one, he enters the ring yet one more time to take on a talented foe.

The local love for this franchise entry is shared up and down the East Coast: New York also picked Rocky Balboa, as did Virginia and the District of Columbia.

New Jersey’s fave sports film is He Got Game (1998), starring Denzel Washington as a sought-after high school basketball prospect.

Delaware cheers for Bend It Like Beckham (2002), depicting a London girl’s desire to play football (the Britishism for soccer).
