When it comes to serving the needs of the community, there’s one business that lives and breathes the concept of supporting locally.

Annually, First Resource Bank hosts a number of free shred events to help the community safely dispose of unwanted documents. In addition to providing a much-needed service, the bank also collaborates with local nonprofits that need support.

First Resource Bank will team up with The Salvation Army of West Chester for its first free shred event of the year on April 30, from 9 AM-12 PM. People are invited to bring any documents they would like shredded to First Resource Bank in West Chester.

While the event is free, the bank will be collecting both monetary and non-perishable food donations for the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army of West Chester serves more than 16,000 meals every year, and hundreds of families benefit from its food cupboard.

“The bank’s desire to partner with the Salvation Army comes as a welcome blessing,” said Captain Maria Corraliza from the Salvation Army of West Chester. “Having experienced an increase in the number of individuals and families seeking assistance, along with a reduction in food drives resulting from the pandemic, donations have never been more important.”

Food assistance is just one of the many services provided by the Salvation Army of West Chester. It also offers a summer camp for kids, provides struggling families with Toys for Tots during the holiday season, hosts weekly ministry services and AA meetings, provides rental assistance and social services for those in need, and even hosts a transitional housing program that helps individuals return to independent living.

“One of the shared values between the Salvation Army of West Chester and the bank is the desire to do the most good,” said Glenn Marshall, CEO of First Resource Bank. “It’s really what community banking is all about. When one of our neighbors struggles, we have a responsibility to help in whatever way we can. We’re excited to support them with our upcoming shred event and encourage the community to join us and learn more about their mission.”

First Resource Bank has developed a reputation for its philanthropic work within the community. As one of the few remaining locally owned and operated banks, its commitment to providing superior customer service while supporting the community has earned it multiple awards, including Best Bank in Chester County for five consecutive years, Best Bank along the Main Line, and a three-time recipient of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Best Places to Work Award.
