There’s another sign, literally, that a new Amazon grocery store is coming to the Llanerch Shopping Center, 403 West Chester Pike in Havertown, writes Max Bennett for patch.com.

Amazon Retail LLC has filed an appeal with the Haverford Township Zoning Hearing Board to get a variance for a wall sign at that location.

The Haverford Township Zoning Hearing Board was scheduled to hear the variance request Jan. 20.

The township zoning code allows a signage area of up to 50 square feet for the spot. Current signage is 108.5 feet. 

Amazon wants 164.62 square feet, which is why variance approval is needed from the zoning hearing board.

A liquor license for Amazon is also still pending at that location, according to the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.

Amazon operates Amazon Go and Amazon Go Grocery stores. Customers access a phone app as they enter the store that lets them scan items that are billed to an Amazon account without having to go through a checkout line.

Amazon Go has breakfast, lunch and snack items for sale.

The grocery store version has ready-made meals, fresh produce, meat and seafood, bakery items and household essentials. Some sell beer.
