The tiny yard that borders St. Gabriel Parish in Norwood is lighting up the night on Chester Pike with 400 lit-up Christmas lawn decorations, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

You can see Colvin’s Winter Wonderland for free, but donations to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry in Prospect Park are gratefully accepted by display creator John Colvin.

Last year, he was able to donate $4,500 to the food pantry, through cash donations and Venmo. Visitors can also bring nonperishable and canned foods. A drop-off basket is on site.

Colvin started 25 years ago with three wooden holiday figurines on his front lawn.

Today, decorations of aluminum and wood, nylon, and steel dot his home, attracting hundreds of visitors a year.

Figurines dance, talk, and sway to holiday music. Santa’s represented. So are his reindeer. There are Nativity sets, Christmas trees, penguins, polar bears, elves, toy soldiers, snowmen. New attractions get added each season.

Each visitor gets a candy cane, and, occasionally, hot chocolate.

“Putting up this display for the community is therapeutic for us in some ways,” Colvin reflected. “But the real reason we do it is for the children!”
