Career Corner: LevelUp Philadelphia is Helping Frontline Workers Find Work During Labor Shortage

Two telemarketers enjoying a moment together.

Though the worst of the economic harm from the pandemic is hopefully behind us, that does not mean the job market has fully recovered.

Many businesses are still struggling on the brink of bankruptcy, and a lot of workers have not had it easy reintegrating into the workforce.

Over 84,000 jobs that were lost in Pennsylvania during the pandemic have still not come back. The majority of those jobs were in crucial fields as well, such as healthcare and technology.

That is why the newly created LevelUp Philadelphia is aiming to help local workers find steady, good-quality jobs in the area.

In describing what she hopes the initiative will achieve, the vice president of partnerships and operations at SkillUp, Elissa Salas said, “In order to better equip our workers for the future, we’re proud to partner with Philadelphia Works and Macquarie to provide a plethora of resources to the community… It is our hope that this partnership will not only boost the workforce in Philadelphia but continue to improve the local economy for generations to come.”

Local workers can access the tools of LevelUp online, which not only includes job opportunities but also training and coaching. The initiative also helps workers see the trends that the job market is experiencing so they have information to help them understand what fields are diminishing and which are seeing growth.

Considering how many are currently struggling with finding good work right now, a service like this is no doubt welcome for providing some direction. For those interested in learning more, the LevelUp site is online and can provide more in-depth answers to your questions about if this could be something beneficial to you or someone you know.
