A charitable donation was made to Delaware County Senior Community Services from Wawa at a Sept. 2 opening of a Ridley Wawa.

A new Ridley Wawa opened last Thursday at 390 E. Chester Pike, the former site of Lou’s Gulf Station, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The store is a bigger version of a smaller Wawa that relocated from 934 Chester Pike in Prospect Park.

Thursday’s early afternoon ribbon-cutting featured first responders, local officials, and charity partners.

Casey Foster, of WMMR’s Preston and Steve Show, emceed the event. Foster is a lifelong Delaware County resident.

“I grew up going to Wawa #1 on MacDade Boulevard, so I’ve been a Wawa fan my whole life,” Foster told the crowd.

The new Ridley Township location is the second of three stores opening in the county in 2021. An Upper Darby store opened in June and a third is set to open in Boothwyn in December.

The opening included a “Hoagies for Heroes” hoagie building competition between Ridley Township Police, Leedom Fire Co. and Crozer Health, with Leedom taking the win, building 24 hoagies in three minutes.

Wawa presented $1,000 to the charities of each team’s choice.

It also hosted a Wawa Delco T-shirt sale with proceeds going to Delaware County Senior Community Services.
