The Child Guidance Resource Centers has decided to make its annual Superhero 5K Run/Walk and Festival once again a virtual event in light of Delaware County being in the CDC’s high category for the community spread of COVID-19.

For months, the Child Guidance Resource Center has been planning and working to host a safe and fun race on October 3, 2021, from 9 a.m. to noon at Ridley Creek State Park, with an option to participate virtually.

Now it’s an all-virtual event.

“After considerable discussion, and following the lead of some of the other races in our areas, our planning committee has decided to change the race format to a fully virtual event,” stated a Child Guidance release.

“While we deeply miss being in person together, we decided the risk outweighed the benefit of being in close contact with one another, particularly with our family-focus and the risk posed for children.”

The virtual format will allow participants to connect with one another, raise awareness for Alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention, share fun family activities and still move together, but from afar, the release stated.

Participants should still grab their Superhero capes, register, and “help us stomp out stigma,” the release stated.

Register here for this virtual event.

All proceeds support families struggling with addiction and mental health throughout the Delaware Valley.

The Superhero Run & Wellness Festival offers families prevention skills, builds awareness of substance abuse, and shares important resources.

Prizes will be given for:

  • Top fundraising team captain
  • Fundraising team with the most participants (team with the most donors)
  • Best Superhero costume
  • Best Pet Superhero costume
  • Best Superhero Family
  • Most steps taken in one day (send us a picture of your Fitbit/iPhone/step counter)
  • Random prize drawings

Participants are invited to tag and share Superhero pictures at #preventionpower #cgrc5k

“We hope you will join us as we promote tobacco, drug, and alcohol prevention and raise funds to provide therapeutic care for thousands of children and families from across the five-county Philadelphia area,” the release stated. “Thanks again for your support. We look forward to being in-person in 2022.”

The event is coordinated by Child Guidance Resource Centers and partially funded by the Delaware County Office of Behavioral Health Division of Drug and Alcohol.

Child Guidance Resource Centers is 501c3 charitable organization headquartered at 2000 Old West Chester Pike, Havertown.
