Aqua Pennsylvania has announced that $7.9 million in infrastructure improvement projects are underway in Upper Darby, Middletown, and Marple townships to improve service reliability for customers throughout Delaware County.

In Upper Darby Township, crews recently began work on a $5.8 million project replacing 8,494 feet of aging six- and eight-inch water mains with new eight-inch ductile iron water mains on the following streets:

• West Chester Pike between Oakley Road and Landaff Road
• Bewley Road between Township Line Road and North Harword Avenue
• North Harwood Avenue between Bewley Avenue and West Chester Pike

Aqua’s work is expected to be completed by November.

In Middletown Township, crews are working on a $1.3 million project to replace 11,139 feet of aging six-inch water mains with new four-, six-, and eight-inch ductile iron water mains on the following streets:

• Chipmunk Lane to where it connects at both ends to Indian Lane
• Media Station Road from Chipmunk Lane to Indian Lane
• Indian Lane from Chipmunk Lane to Church Road
• Church Road from South Old Middletown Road to Elwyn Avenue
• Woodbriar Drive from Indian Lane to the end of cul-de-sac

Aqua’s work is expected to be completed by October.

Crews are also working on an $899,000 project in Marple Township to replace 4,181 feet of aging six-and eight-inch water mains with new eight-inch ductile iron water mains on the following streets:

• Dogwood Lane between Media Line Road and Barclay Lane
• Barclay Lane between Heather Road and Gradyville Road
• Gradyville Road between Barclay Lane and Old Cedar Grove Road
• Old Cedar Grove Road between Kimberly Way and Gradyville Road
• Springton Lane between Gradyville Road and Springton Lane

Aqua’s work is expected to be completed by September.

These projects are part of Aqua’s continuing infrastructure improvement program that replaced more than 45 miles of aging main in Delaware County in 2020 to improve service reliability for customers. Aqua expects to replace approximately 45 miles of main in Delaware County by the end of this year. The new water mains will reduce the potential for main breaks and discolored water and improve water flow in the area.

The capital spend for these projects is included in Aqua’s nearly $53 million infrastructure program planned for Delaware County in 2021.
