High school senior Lyric Wise had no idea Good Morning America was at her Folcroft home when they interviewed her via computer about a scholarship she had won, reports Corey Davis for 6abc.com.

Lyric thought she was being interviewed by Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts for being a finalist for a $10,000 scholarship.

Turns out Good Morning America’s Janai Normal, a Drexel University mascot and cheerleaders were outside her front door, and they had a check for $50,000.

Tallo, a mobile platform connecting students to opportunities, gifted her the $50,000.

The high school senior is the first in her family to go to college, in this case, Drexel University.

“The fact that people care about me learning, it just makes me want to go so much harder,” Lyric said.

Lyric, a senior at Paul Robeson High School in West Philadelphia, is salutatorian and president of her school’s National Honor Society.

She lost her father to a heart attack four years ago. Financial hardship from the pandemic temporarily separated the kids.

“She has overcome a lot,” said Lyric’s mother, Lauren Curtis.

Lyric is interested in helping others and is considering becoming a lawyer but is still undecided.
