Super Bowl Ad That Lit Up Social Media Has Ties to Delaware County

By

The creative talent behind a Super Bowl ad that generated a bit of social media buzz has ties to Delaware County, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

“Office Opinion” for Cure Insurance aired just before the halftime show.

It starred Tommy Pope of Drexel Hill, a 1998 graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School.

The ad’s cinematographer, Chris Newhard, also has ties to Delco. His mother was a teacher at St. Dorothy School in Drexel Hill.

The ad uses a double entendre with a sexual harassment in the work place undertone.

Many on social media did not find the ad humorous.

“We all went into this knowing that this topic would be controversial to discuss. In our opinion, it’s important to remind people that workplace sexual harassment has, in fact, not gone away, and this may be around for quite a while,” Newhard said.

Criticism doesn’t mean the ad wasn’t successful.

“Success can be determined via shares, positive comments and likes, which we had,” Pope said.

The commercial was directed by John McKeever, who has teamed up with Pope and Newhard on a Comedy Central digital sitcom, Delco Proper, about life in Delaware County.
