HBO’s Mare of Easttown Latest Success Story for Villanova, Carroll High Grad Brad Ingelsby
A screenwriting class at Villanova University steered Brad Ingelsby from business to film.
The Archbishop Carroll High graduate is the creator of “Mare of Easttown” an HBO limited series starring Kate Winslet, airing April 18, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.
Winslet is Mare Sheehan, a state high school basketball champion who’s now a detective in her home town.
“It’s really a story about a character,” says Ingelsby, a Berwyn native. “At the core of the story is a woman having to deal with grief.”
“Mare” was filmed in Aston and Drexel Hill, among other locations.
His other works include “Out of the Furnace” featuring Christian Bale and Woody Harrelson; 2015’s “Run All Night” with Liam Neeson and Ed Harris.
It makes sense Mare Sheehan’s was a basketball champion. Ingelsby’s father was a starting guard at Villanova in the early 1970s and played three years professionally.
Ingelsby’s older brother Martin started four years at Notre Dame University and is head coach at the University of Delaware.
The irony of Brad’s success is not lost on his father. These days he’s known as “Brad’s father,” instead of Brad being “Tom Ingelsby’s son.”
