A Ridley Park man has been charged  with obstructing Congrees in connection with the Jan.6  insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, writes Jeremy Roebuck for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

FBI agents said Richard Michetti was arguing with his ex-girlfriend over text messages about being in the mob of pro-Trump supporters as he dodged tear gas and rubber bullets in the storming of the Capitol building.

“If you can’t see the election was stolen, you’re a moron,” he wrote in a text message exchange with her quoted in court filings, adding later: “This is tyranny. They … told us ‘We rigged the election and there’s nuthin [sic] you can do about it’ What do you think should be done?”

Prosecutors identified Michetti from photo and video footage showing him with a crowd outside the Capitol and later checking his phone in a crowd on the Capitol steps.

His ex provided texts and videos he had sent her to the FBI.

Michetti was charged with illegally entering Capitol grounds and obstruction of Congress. He faces a 20-year prison sentence.

Federal prosecutors have charged more than 250 people in connection with the insurrection.
