They Were Friends for Most of 80 Years, Then COVID Took One of Them
For most of 80 years, Jane Krumrine and Jessamine “Susy” Brandt shared a close friendship that included socializing, traveling, and going to church together.
Then on April 17, 82-year-old Krumrine, living at Dunwoody Village in Newtown Square, died of COVID-19, writes Noble Brigham for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
They met as toddlers in 1939, when Brandt’s parents bought a house in Merion, four houses down from the Krumrines.
Brandt referred to Krumrine’s father as “Uncle Charlie” and Krumrine became an honorary Brandt family member.
They took the train together to high school and vacationed together in college.
The two had 45 travel adventures in 17 countries by the end of Krumrine’s life.
Krumrine joined Brandt at Overbrook Presbyterian Church in the mid-1980s.
In October 2018, now in their 80s, they moved to Dunwoody Village.
Brandt continued to visit Krumrine almost every day even as Krumrine’s health was deteriorating. They last saw each other on March 11, 2020.
Brandt talked to her eight hours before Krumerine died.
“We love you,” Brandt told her. “We love you. And everything is OK. You’ll be alright …”
A memorial and party is planned in May, on Krumrine’s 84th birthday.
