When Connie Carino started searching for a retirement community in the region that would be ideal for her and her husband, Jim, and that would also accept her 11-year-old wirehaired dachshund, she did not have to look for long, writes Mindy Toran for Suburban Life.

Pet-friendly Dunwoody Village, a continuing-care retirement community for active adults in Newtown Square, was the perfect fit.

The community offers independent residential homes, personal care, and memory care, as well as a welcoming environment for dogs. It’s set on 83 sprawling acres with plenty of hiking and walking trails, a wildlife refuge, and dog park, all of which encourage residents to be active and socialize outdoors with their pets.

The community is home to around 340 residents and 20 dogs.

“Both the residents and their dogs are very involved in the community, and our expansive grounds provide plenty of opportunities for exercise and outdoor activities,” said Monica Knauss, Dunwoody’s community relations coordinator.

The community also offers on-site veterinary services.

“Our residents’ pets are members of the family,” said Knauss, “and it’s important to provide them with the care they need as well.”
