Brunch is back, baby, and eating al fresco is fabulous under the Fall foliage at the Black Powder Tavern in Wayne. What’s your breakfast or lunch pleasure? If you’re hungry for brunch, get ready for some fresh tastes. Steak n’ Eggs and Build Your Own Omelet are just two more traditional breakfast choices that set the stage for a fine brunch dining experience with fresh, seasonal flavors.

Bernie Bottmeyer, General Manager, is excited for brunch because it gives local people the opportunity to come in and enjoy themselves, as well as creating new relationships with all the clients. “We have a seasonal Fall menu coming out in the middle of October, and we want all our great clients to come in and experience our Fall flavors.”

Try the Avocado Toast on grilled sourdough, the Smoked Salmon on toasted rye bread with everything cream cheese, capers, and pickled red onion. The Poached Egg Croque Madame is a sophisticated take on the more common Croque Monsieur, and could almost be classified as a Benedict. It offers up two gently poached eggs on slices of toasted brioche, emerald-green sauteed spinach, smoked ham, and the best part — Gruyère cheese sauce. Chicken and Waffles with honey and whipped butter or warm waffles with fresh cream and fruit compote were sweet and filling.

Be sure to check out the drink menu — a mimosa or freshly brewed coffee deliciously complements your brunch items.

If your appetite is more lunch oriented, start with appetizers and small plates like calamari, loaded potato chips, or chicken wings; or savor the beer-baked Bavarian-style pretzel sticks (which are like biting into a fluffy, salty cloud) and dip them generously into the two heavenly sauces — a spicy ale mustard and a flavorful andouille cheese sauce.

If you are craving something bigger, the Short Rib Grilled Cheese and the Big Ale Prime Burger are fabulous, along with Cajun Macaroni and Cheese, Veggies on Ciabatta, or Cedar Planked Roasted Salmon.

Service at the Black Powder is friendly, fast, and efficient, and servers are quick to seat you, hand out menus, and bring out beverages. As you’d expect, social distancing and mask-regulations are in full effect.

Indoor dining is available, but if the weather is nice, ask to sit outside. The lovely oak trees and surrounding greenery are a lovely environment in which to enjoy your meal.

The tavern seats customers at 50 percent capacity, and if you sit outside in the tent or on the patio, outside heaters will keep you comfortable while enjoying brunch, lunch, or dinner.

Overall, the Black Powder Tavern offers a very enjoyable — and reasonably priced — local brunch option. On Sunday, brunch starts at 11 AM. Bring your family, and come hungry!

The Black Powder Tavern offers brunch, lunch, and dinner.
