Health Department Softens Language for Classroom Instruction, Some Parents Nervous

By

Even as the Chester County Health Department softens its COVID-19 guidance to Delaware County schools regarding COVID-19, some parents are nervous about students returning to the classroom, writes Max Bennett for patch.com and Dawn Timmeney for fox29.com.

The health department issued updates Sept. 14 for public and private schools. The new updates change transitioning from virtual to in-person instruction from “transition…can only be done when…” to “transition…can be considered when…”

Jeanne Casner, director of the Chester County Health Department, said the update has meant some schools changing to in-person instruction and sports before the original recommended target date of Oct. 9.

One father of a third grader and seventh grader at Wallingford Swarthmore School District is a little apprehensive about a return to class.

“There’s some folks that just want to get them back to school as soon as possible as much as possible. I think that’s a bad idea,” Mike Zdilla stated.

While he admits it’s hard to decide what’s best for children in a pandemic, he thinks schools should ease back in and put safety first.
