72 New COVID-19 Cases Overshadow Previous Day’s Low of 35

Delaware County’s COVID-19 cases ticked up again on Wednesday, May 13, with 72 new cases reported, for a total of 5,208.

Fourteen more people died from complications of COVID-19, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the county to 419, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

Of that total number, 330 occurred in a nursing home or personal care facility in the county.

COVID-19 deaths have now been reported in 33 of the county’s 49 municipalities after Trainer reported one death.

The following is a breakdown of COVID-19 fatalities listed by the Chester County Health Department by community in descending order of deaths reported:

The virus is reported in 48 of the 49 municipalities, with no cases reported in Rose Valley.

There are 235 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has been assigned.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 347 cases, affecting 3.03 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most reported cases, at 833, affecting 1 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

Pennsylvania data

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of midnight, May 13, that there are 707 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 58,698.

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

The state is reporting an increase of 137 new deaths, bringing the statewide total to 3,943 deaths in Pennsylvania.

Of those, 2,705 were in nursing homes and personal care facilities.

The southeast region of the state, which includes Delaware, Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester Counties, has the highest number of positive confirmed cases in the state, at 37,396.  The next highest number of cases in the state is in the northeast, reporting 11,488 cases.
