To protect the health of the campus community and to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus infection, Neumann University has extended online instruction for all classes through the end of the spring 2020 semester.

Changes to the university’s May graduation ceremony are under consideration and will be shared with the campus community at a later date. All other university events, including athletic contests and cultural arts, have been canceled for the semester.

“The work of educating students and caring for all members of the Neumann University family will remain our top priority,” wrote Dr. Chris Domes, university president, in a March 19 email to students, faculty and staff. “This decision will allow all members of our community to remain safe while ensuring that students can complete their coursework for the semester and the daily operations of the institution can continue.”

This decision extends the university action regarding online learning and cancellation of events beyond the original March 29 date for these steps.

The spring semester academic schedule will remain in place.  Student assignments at all clinical sites have been suspended. The university will provide alternate methods of instruction for these students.

Additionally, internships and field experiences have been canceled, and the university is currently working with its various accrediting agencies on substitutions for both.

A small number of resident students remain in the dormitories. Counseling, dining, security, and housekeeping services will continue for these students. Library services will be available online for all students.

University offices will operate remotely through the semester. Only essential personnel will be on campus. The Office of Admissions is scheduling virtual appointments for prospective undergraduate, transfer, degree completion, and graduate students.

The transition to online classes is based on the concept of social distancing, the goal of which is to decrease the number of situations that require community members to gather in groups and to minimize time spent in close proximity to others.

Members of the university’s executive team will remain in close, regular contact with local health officials and agencies to adapt campus plans to new developments as they occur.
