The 25 priciest colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area cost (in the last fiscal year) an average of $62,232 per year to attend, up nearly 40 percent from a decade ago, writes Kennedy Rose for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

These costs include everything from tuition and supplies to room and board, transportation, and personal enrollment.

With a few exceptions, the majority of the area’s most expensive colleges have a few thousand students and are located in the suburbs.

The most expensive university in the region is Penn. Its attendance costs in fiscal 2018 were $71,715, a 40 percent increase from fiscal 2008.

Next is Haverford College with $71,614 in attendance cost, a 39 percent increase from a decade ago, followed by Franklin & Marshall College in third place with a $70,430 average cost, up 40 percent since 2008.

Swarthmore College and Drexel University round out the top five with $68,846 and $68,792 in total cost, respectively.

Bryn Mawr College, Villanova, and Ursinus also made the list, as did Widener, Saint Joseph’s, and Arcadia.
