Clover Health, a data-driven health insurance provider, is expanding into Delaware County’s Medicare Advantage market in 2020, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.

It started offering coverage to Medicare Advantage patients in Philadelphia and Bucks counties this year.

Clover Health was founded in 2014 with a mission of using data analysis and preventive care to improve health insurance for seniors.

Vivek Garipalli, co-founder and CEO of Clover Health, said the company decided to expand into Delaware County as part of its strategy to make a more aggressive push into southeastern Pennsylvania in 2020.

“Clover Health began in New Jersey, ” Garipalli said. “We started in the northern part of the state and then expanded into the central and southern parts of the state. As part of that, we had to add some Pennsylvania hospital to our market. So it made sense to go into adjacent markets.”

Clover’s strategy is to equip physicians’ offices with data in real time to guide them in making the most cost-efficient treatment decisions for patients without sacrificing quality.

Its system also analyzes where patients can go for the lowest co-pay options, and tracks whether patients pick up their medications.
